The central quarter spreading around the great domed Cathedral of Saint Andrew at the southern end of the seafront, between the lower-city grid and the water. It is a working central neighbourhood — apartment blocks, shops, offices, the odd hotel — with pilgrims and coach parties for the cathedral by day and residents the rest of the time. It matters to travellers because it is the practical end of town for transport: the railway and intercity bus stations and the North (Old) Port are all close, and guides name it as the convenient choice for an early ferry. Against Ano Poli it is plainer and noisier; against the port strip proper it is far more populated and better lit.

Reasonably busy until late along the main avenues and the seafront, with restaurants and bars keeping footfall up. The back streets inland thin out after midnight. This is central Patras, where most of the city's recorded street theft happens — police counted 261 thefts of items in outdoor public spaces citywide in the first nine months of 2025.
