A large residential district in the eastern half of the city, named for its parish church, with a big square in front of it and a mixture of 1970s apartment blocks, newer building and older houses. It is convenient for the university road and student guides list it among the practical areas for anyone commuting to Rio, so it has a steady student population alongside families. There is no visitor draw. Compared with Anthoupoli and Ampelokipoi on the same eastern side, it is busier and more mixed; unlike them it carries a specific, well-documented local problem centred on one foreclosed building rather than the neighbourhood at large.

Normal residential streets for the most part. Press reporting names one foreclosed and occupied apartment block at the Kourtesi junction as the source of recurring incidents, and describes those incidents spreading to the square in front of the Agia Sofia church. A police operation in July 2026 included Plateia Agias Sofias among the checked locations.
