Who we are

SafetyMap is an independent neighbourhood safety map for Greece. The site is operated by its publisher, who you can reach at safetymap.help@gmail.com. We are the controller of the limited data described here.

The scores are our reading of published and open sources. They are not an official crime statistic and not advice from the police.

What we collect

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not run a server-side database of visitors.

What can exist: a theme preference stored only in your browser; technical data your browser sends to our host when it requests a page (such as IP address and user agent), which the host uses to deliver the page; and, only if you accept, analytics and advertising data described below.

Cookies and local storage

Strictly speaking the site does not need a cookie to show the map. A theme choice may be kept in local storage on your device under the key “theme”. The consent choice is kept under safetymap:consent. Neither is sent to our server.

Analytics and advertising storage are set only after you accept the banner. Details are on the Cookie Policy.

Analytics

If you accept, we load Statable (statable.com) to count visits, pages, and referring sites. Statable may process an IP address and set its own cookie or similar identifier. We use the counts to see which pages are useful. We do not use them to identify you.

If you reject, the Statable script is not loaded.

Advertising

SafetyMap is funded by advertising. If you accept, we load Google AdSense (publisher ca-pub-8797188391400158). Google may use cookies, your IP address, and similar identifiers to show and measure ads, including personalised ads where the law allows it and you have agreed.

Visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are covered by Google's EU User Consent Policy. We do not load the AdSense script until you accept. You can withdraw that choice at any time from Cookie settings on the Cookie Policy page.

Who we share data with

We do not sell personal data.

If you accept analytics or ads, Statable and Google process data as described above. They may process it outside Greece, including in the United States. Our host processes IP addresses to deliver the site.

We may disclose information if the law requires it.

Why we are allowed to

Remembering your consent and your theme is necessary to provide the service you asked for.

Analytics and advertising run on your consent. You can refuse them without losing the map, and you can withdraw consent later. Withdrawal does not affect processing that already happened.

Your rights

If the GDPR applies to you, you can ask for access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal data we hold, and you can object to or restrict certain processing. Because we do not keep visitor accounts, we usually hold nothing we can look up by name. Write to safetymap.help@gmail.com and we will answer.

You can also complain to the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr) or to the authority where you live.

Children

SafetyMap is a general map. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of the page. A change that starts a new kind of cookie will ask for consent again.
