Evosmos property crime

Εύοσμος · district

36/100

Evosmos scores 36 out of 100 for property crimeabove-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 514 people at 7,743 people per km².

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.

What Evosmos is actually like

Fine by day, care after darkNormal by day and worth visiting. What changes after dark is specific and avoidable rather than general.

The seat of the municipality and, with 79,221 residents, one of the largest urban districts in Greece - built out from a 1920s refugee settlement. It has a real centre with a busy square and markets, and carries more sustained crime reporting than anywhere else in these four municipalities: shop break-ins, repeated police juvenile-delinquency sweeps, and a police union complaint that the local crime squad is seriously understaffed.

After dark

Evosmos Square is the documented flashpoint, for friction between groups of teenagers rather than attacks on adults - in April 2026 a 15-year-old was charged after attacking three girls aged 13 and 14 there. Overnight, the recorded risk is to shopfronts; shopkeepers have asked for policing after 00:30.

What to watch for

  • Evosmos Square, especially weekend afternoons and evenings
  • Shopfront break-ins overnight
  • Groups of under-18s - repeatedly targeted by police operations

Staying here

No - not for visitors. Residential, far from the sights and the most consistently reported district here. Fine to visit by day.

Reputation against reality. Over 100 complaints were filed about Evosmos Square via the MyStreet app in October 2025. These were about table-and-chair permits for shops, not safety - guides that cite the complaint count as evidence of crime are misreading it.
