Keratsini-Drapetsona scores 37 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for violent crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 91,045 people (2021 census), 9,394 per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Keratsini-Drapetsona is actually like
Keratsini-Drapetsona is the working-class port suburb directly west of Piraeus, made up of Keratsini (75,721 residents in 2021) and the much smaller Drapetsona (13,815). Drapetsona sits on the north side of the entrance to Piraeus port, about 2 km from Piraeus, and was long part of its industrial zone, with a shipyard, cement works and a fertiliser plant. The plant site is now Lipasmata park, a seafront park with a 2.5 km coastal path, free sports courts and a summer festival, reached by buses 20, 420 and 703. Keratsini is a patchwork of districts such as Evgeneia, Amfiali, Tabouria and Charavgi; Pavlou Fyssa Avenue is its shopping street, and the central fish market has worked from Agios Georgios bay since 1966. Laikimap lists street markets in Amfiali on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and in Drapetsona on Wednesdays on Riga Feraiou.
After dark
The night-time harm documented on the main roads is traffic: a truck killed a 70-year-old crossing Grigoriou Lambraki at 22:30 in October 2024, and a delivery rider hit a 15-year-old crossing Salaminos after 23:00 in May 2026. The one crime pattern tied to darkness targeted delivery riders: a gang lured them with fake food orders to poorly lit, quiet side streets and robbed them there, mostly late in the evening and in the early morning.
What to watch for
- Robberies of delivery riders: from at least November 2025 a gang placed app orders to dim, low-traffic streets in Keratsini, Korydallos and Agia Varvara and robbed the riders with knives and a baton, injuring four; police arrested six people for nine robberies in March 2026
- Motorbike theft: on a Sunday evening in January 2026 police chased a 15-year-old riding a motorbike stolen in early December from the junction of Dimokratias and Konstantinoupoleos avenues until it was boxed in near Madytou Street
- Crossing the main avenues after dark: a 70-year-old pedestrian was killed by a truck on Grigoriou Lambraki at 22:30 in October 2024, and a 15-year-old was hit by a delivery rider on Salaminos shortly after 23:00 in May 2026
- 18 September: the anniversary of the 2013 killing of Pavlos Fyssas by a Golden Dawn member brings a concert, a march through Keratsini and road closures around his memorial on Pavlou Fyssa (the 13th, in September 2026, passed with police deployed and no incidents reported)
Staying here
Holidaymakers have little reason to book here: it is a working-class residential area whose one real visitor draw is Lipasmata park. It suits people who work at the port or in Piraeus and want to live close by - Drapetsona and Evgeneia, the coastal district on the Piraeus border, are nearest, and Amfiali has street markets three days a week.
