Sykies scores 30 out of 100 for property crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 37,753 people at 6,745 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. The municipality's southern unit, immediately above the old city walls, dense and steep with some of the best views over the gulf. It is long-settled working and middle-class Thessaloniki, close enough to the centre to walk down to Ano Poli. The documented crime picture is acquisitive and local: a burglary crew that worked shops across Neapoli and Sykies was identified, and a group of three was arrested for fifteen thefts committed in the municipality between 6 September and 3 December 2025.
Quiet residential streets on the slope, with the documented pattern being shop break-ins and thefts rather than street attacks. Steep, poorly overlooked stair-streets are the obvious thing to avoid walking alone late.
Possible and cheap, with good views and a walkable link to Ano Poli, but it is residential and hilly. Most visitors do better in the centre.
