What Polichni is actually like
The northeastern municipal unit of Pavlos Melas, about 39,000 people, an independent municipality from 1973 until the 2011 merger and still the administrative heart of the area - the Pavlos Melas police station and crime squad are both based here. It borders Efkarpia, Neapoli, Sykies, Stavroupoli and Meteora. Polichni is ordinary dense residential Thessaloniki: apartment blocks, local shopping streets, sports clubs, Byzantine watermills and a nature park at its edge. It was named among the western areas hit by the 2024 wave of shop break-ins. Two weekly street markets (laiki) set up inside it: Tuesday's on Kanari street, 07:00-14:30, and Thursday's on Filippou street.
After dark
Quiet residential streets after the shops close. The documented overnight risk is to shopfronts, not to people. No reported pattern of street robbery or assault specific to Polichni in 2025-2026.
What to watch for

Staying here
Not a visitor base - residential, no tourist infrastructure and a slow trip to the sights. Unremarkable and safe enough by day.
