Agios Ioannis scores 59 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for violent crime — average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Agios Ioannis has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Kalamaria's rate — Kalamaria scores 58 for violent crime — and the 1 point between them comes from how the model shares Kalamaria's total out, not from anything measured in Agios Ioannis. An estimated 12,307 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Agios Ioannis is actually like
An inland residential quarter of Kalamaria taking its name from the church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos, which municipal heritage records place in the Katirli settlement area. Like most of Kalamaria's inland subdivisions it is dense low- and mid-rise housing with local shops, schools and a parish, and no separate commercial or nightlife identity. Nothing in Greek police releases, local press or travel writing singles out Agios Ioannis for crime or for safety. Judge it by Kalamaria's overall record. The nearest weekly street markets (laiki) are Foinikas's Thursday market, in the park beside the workers' housing on Ethnikis Antistaseos, just beyond its edge, and Nea Krini's Tuesday market on Lykoudi street, 07:00-14:30, about 350 m away.
After dark
Quiet, residential, and dark early. No documented problems; no reason to be out here at night unless you live here.
What to watch for
- Nothing area-specific is documented
Staying here
Fine and ordinary. The centre, metro and seafront are all within walking distance, which is the real argument for it.
