People come for the campus, the beach and the tavernas. Against Rio next door it is quieter and more residential; against Proastio it is more institutional. Its documented problem is burglary of houses.
Campus and student housing keep some activity going; the residential lanes and the seafront are quiet, and lighting off the main roads is limited. Kastelokampos is named in police data as a consistently high-risk zone for residential burglaries, and a police operation targeting drugs covered Rio and Kastelokampos.
Reasonable if you have university or hospital business, with rooms and apartments along the coast. Poor for an early Italy ferry: you are 8 km north of the centre and about 12 km from the South Port gates.
