Δημοτική Κοινότητα Ακταίου · District

Modelled estimate — how it is made
61/100

By type of crime

Akteo scores 61 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for property crime — average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Akteo has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Patras's rate — Patras scores 55 for property crime — and the 6 points between them come from how the model shares Patras's total out, not from anything measured in Akteo. It is home to about 1,494 people (2021 census).

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Akteo is actually like

A good place to stayThe note recommends it as a base and says for whom. Scores are modelled from the wider area's recorded crime, so the two can differ.

A community of the Rio municipal unit on the northern coast, listed officially as Aktaio/Vernadaiika: the village was long known as Vernardeika, and still is. It lies beside the Rio-Antirrio bridge and the Rio ferry, between Rio to the west and Agios Vasileios to the east, about 11 km from the centre of Patras, and had 1,451 residents at the 2021 census. It is a quiet seaside settlement with olive groves and farmland behind a beach whose tavernas and cafés are busy in summer, and it has a primary school and a kindergarten on Agias Varvaras street, where the church of the same name stands. City buses on the Rio lines stop at Vernadeika and Agia Varvara, and the nearest street market in the municipal regulation is Rio's, on Tuesday mornings along Ioniou street. No incident reporting.

After dark

Quiet, with summer activity along the shore and near-silence out of season. No documented incidents or patrol priorities.

What to watch for

  • Empty holiday houses out of season
  • Unlit shore road

Staying here

Fine for a quiet summer seaside stay with a car. Far from the Italy ferry gates — not a base for an early sailing.
