An estimated 775 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Prosfigika is actually like

Fine by day, care after darkThe note names what changes after dark and where; by day the usual precautions apply.

The first refugee settlement in Patras, built from 1926-28 for families from Asia Minor, and still recognisable as a planned estate of low terraces on a grid of narrow streets in the south-west of the city. It is a poor, densely built quarter with a long-settled population, some of the cheapest housing in Patras, and a municipal renovation programme part-completed. Outsiders go for the architecture — it is genuinely photogenic and often paired with Agia Aikaterini in local features on Patras's picturesque old quarters. It is also the most consistently named district in Hellenic Police reporting on the city, which is the single biggest difference between it and every other inner neighbourhood on this list. The Friday-morning street market (laiki) sets up on Damonos street and its side streets, Nikaias, Efesou, Pergamou, Proussis and Fanariou, for four months at a time, alternating with nearby Smyrnis street.

After dark

This is the entry where the after-dark question is real. Residents told the local press in July 2026 that they are afraid to go out when it gets dark, citing inadequate street lighting; the municipality admitted its lighting works were unfinished. Police drug reporting describes specific houses and alleys here as hard to patrol with night-time activity.

What to watch for

  • Ionias, Pontou, Damonos and Efesou streets — the blocks residents name for poor lighting
  • The Ionias-Pontou junction specifically: broken fittings and exposed cable reported
  • Narrow alleys off the estate grid after dark
  • Walking through as a short cut at night rather than going round

Staying here

No. Not because it is uniformly dangerous but because there is essentially nothing to book, it is the district with the most documented policing problems, and it is neither near the centre nor convenient for either port. Stay in the centre or Ano Poli and visit by day if you want to see it.

Reputation against reality. The local press has used sensational framing for this quarter for years. Set against that, the concrete documented record is specific and narrower: poor lighting on four named streets, drug activity in particular alleys, assaults on officers during interventions, and repeated inclusion in patrol priorities. The estate as a whole is a poor, ordinary, largely elderly residential neighbourhood.
