What Levka is actually like
The old industrial core, named for the poplars that grew here under King George I. It borders Kaminia to the east, Palaia Kokkinia to the north, Papastratos to the west along the OSE lines, and Gouva tou Vavoula and Paliatzidika to the south along the ISAP lines. This was the labour centre of Piraeus: the Retsina brothers' textile mill, the last of five, and the Kerani tobacco works, once Greece's third largest.
After dark
Semi-industrial and thinly populated after working hours, with railway cuttings, blank warehouse walls and long stretches without passers-by. That, rather than any documented incident, is the reason to be deliberate about your route.
