Profitis Ilias crime and safety

Προφήτη Ηλία · district

33/100

Profitis Ilias scores 33 out of 100 for overall safetyabove-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 4,852 people at 16,579 people per km².

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.

What Profitis Ilias is actually like

Ordinary city precautionsNo specific problem on record beyond what any dense city centre has.

Profitis Ilias is the upper, eastern part of Pangrati, bounded by Leoforos Ymittou and the streets Formionos, Aritis, Nikiforidi, Iliados and Empedokleous — about 334 stremmata with roughly 12,500 residents. It grew out of the 1922 refugee settlement of Pangrati, later called the Vyronas settlement, and centres on its church, built 1928-30 and consecrated in 1942, and the square in front of it.

After dark

Ordinary residential quiet, with local cafe life on Ymittou and around the church square. It is further from the tourist centre than the rest of Pangrati and correspondingly emptier late in the evening.

What to watch for

  • Quiet residential streets off Leoforos Ymittou with limited lighting and little foot traffic late
  • Furthest part of Pangrati from the centre: a 35-minute walk or a bus, so late returns need planning
  • Road and pavement damage was raised for Pangrati as a whole at the Athens municipal council on 20 April 2026

Staying here

A cheaper way to stay in Pangrati if you are content with a 35-minute walk or a bus into the centre. Good for families and long stays, dull for a three-night sightseeing trip.

Reputation against reality. Administratively split from Pangrati I, which confuses listings, but on the ground it is simply upper Pangrati and shares its safety profile.
