What Drepano is actually like
A coastal community of the Rio municipal unit on the cape of the same name, about 7 km north-east of Rio and 13 km in a straight line from Plateia Georgiou in central Patras, with 451 residents at the 2021 census. The cape, named since antiquity for its sickle shape, carries a stone lighthouse built in 1880, destroyed in the Second World War and back in service after 1945, and a Geometric-period cemetery has been excavated in the village. Cape Drepano is a windsurfing and kitesurfing spot: the wind usually blows from the east in the morning and swings to the north-west after midday, and the local windsurfing club has run a kitesurf festival here. Beaches, tavernas and summer houses; an arrest for theft here appeared in a 2026 police bulletin. No Patras city bus runs here, and the nearest street market in the municipal regulation is Rio's, on Tuesday mornings.
