Platani scores 67 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for property crime — below-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Platani has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Patras's rate — Patras scores 55 for property crime — and the 12 points between them come from how the model shares Patras's total out, not from anything measured in Platani. It is home to about 481 people (2021 census).
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Platani is actually like
A community of the Rio municipal unit on the ground inland of the coast road, at 184 m, about 5 km east of Rio and 10 km in a straight line from Plateia Georgiou in central Patras, with 459 residents at the 2021 census. The Olympia Odos motorway passes to its north, between it and Agios Vasileios. Ancient Argyra is believed to have stood here, and an 11th-century church of Agios Nikolaos survives. It is the one outlying settlement in this group that appears repeatedly in current police reporting: named among the consistently high-risk zones for residential burglaries, and among the locations checked in a July 2026 Achaia police operation. Otherwise an ordinary small settlement of houses and holdings; no Patras city bus runs here.
After dark
Quiet and dark away from the main road. The documented record is about burglary of houses and police operations rather than any risk to people walking.
What to watch for
- Residential burglary — Platani is on the police high-risk list
- Daytime break-ins while residents are out, the documented pattern
- Unlit approach lanes off the main road
Staying here
Little to book and no reason to choose it. Far from the Italy ferry gates, so not a base for an early sailing.
Reputation against reality. Platani's appearances are in burglary-hotspot lists and operation reports; nothing in the record points to street or pedestrian risk here.
