A coastal village of the Rio municipal unit about 18 km north-east of Patras at 5 m elevation, the northernmost settlement of the Peloponnese, where the mountain comes down to the sea. Tavernas, beaches and a large summer-house stock. It is one of the few outlying settlements with a documented burglary problem, aimed at unoccupied holiday homes.
Busy along the shore in summer, very quiet out of season, with unlit stretches on the coast road. The documented risk is property, not people.
Good for a seaside stay with a car and the best of the northern shore villages for tavernas. Not a base for an early Italy ferry — around 25 km from the South Port gates.
