Violent crime in Kolokynthou

Κολοκυνθού · District

Modelled estimate — how it is made
31/100

By type of crime

Kolokynthou scores 31 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for violent crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Kolokynthou has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Athens's rate — Athens scores 23 for violent crime — and the 8 points between them come from how the model shares Athens's total out, not from anything measured in Kolokynthou. An estimated 3,619 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Kolokynthou is actually like

Ordinary precautionsThe usual precautions apply. The note lists anything specific to this place.

A small western neighbourhood between Kolonos, Akadimia Platonos and the boundary with Aigaleo and Peristeri. It was market gardens until a few decades ago, so it was subdivided later and built lower and less densely than Kolonos — more two- and three-storey houses, more yards, fewer eight-floor blocks. It is entirely residential, with a share of workshops and nuisance uses strung along the Lenorman axis.

After dark

Quiet, low-rise and largely unremarkable after dark; the Lenorman end is the busier and rougher edge, the interior streets are simply empty.

What to watch for

  • The Lenorman axis, where nuisance uses and workshops concentrate and where guides place the drug-related reputation of the lower Kolonos area
  • Very little street lighting or footfall on the interior lanes late at night
  • Poor connectivity — the railway corridor and Konstantinoupoleos cut the area off from the rest of the city

Staying here

There is essentially no visitor accommodation and no reason to look for any. It is a place to live cheaply, not to stay.

Reputation against reality. Usually absorbed into 'Kolonos' in both news coverage and travel advice, which overstates its problems; nothing specific to Kolokynthou appears in the 2026 police plan.
