Nea Kypseli scores 31 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for violent crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Nea Kypseli has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Athens's rate — Athens scores 23 for violent crime — and the 8 points between them come from how the model shares Athens's total out, not from anything measured in Nea Kypseli. An estimated 9,351 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Nea Kypseli is actually like
A sub-district on the northern side of the Kypseli mass, towards Galatsi and the Tourkovounia. It is later and slightly looser in grain than Kypseli proper, the product of the same post-war building boom pushing uphill, and it functions as pure housing: blocks, schools, a few parish squares and neighbourhood shops. Almost nothing in the Greek press or in travel writing treats it as a place in its own right.
After dark
Residential quiet. No nightlife, no crowds, no particular hazard beyond empty streets and steep gradients.
What to watch for
- Empty residential streets with little overlooking after midnight
- Distance from a metro station — the Line 1 stops are downhill and the walk back is long
- The undeveloped Tourkovounia ground on the northern edge
Staying here
Not somewhere to target, but harmless if a long-stay flat lands you here. Budget for buses or taxis, because you are a real walk from any metro.
Reputation against reality. Not named in the 2026 police plan or in any travel-safety guide found. The honest description is ordinary outer-Kypseli housing.
