Aroi scores 47 out of 100 for overall safety — average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 2,383 people at 618 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.
An inner-eastern district on the rising ground behind the centre, named for the ancient settlement that preceded Patras. It is a dense residential quarter of apartment blocks and older houses with schools, a church and local shops, popular with families and students because it is cheap and within walking distance of the centre. No visitor comes here deliberately. Against Psarofai and Zarouchleika further south it is closer in, better served and more mixed; against the quieter eastern suburbs it is busier. It appears in police reporting in a specific way — as a burglary target rather than a source — which is worth separating out.
Ordinary residential streets, with some late activity from student housing. The documented risk here is burglary rather than street crime: a ring operating from late 2025 specifically targeted Aroi homes at night, climbing to balconies. Aroi was also included in the July 2025 targeted patrol list.
Possible for a cheap central-ish short let, and walkable to the centre, but there is little formal accommodation and nothing to see. For an early Italy ferry you will want a taxi to the South Port regardless.
Reputation against reality. Aroi appears in the crime record mainly as a place that was burgled, not as a problem district. That distinction gets lost when districts are listed together.
