It mixes rapid residential development, detached houses on quiet lanes and a working industrial fringe of factories and workshops, and it is where the Riganokampos settlement sits on the city's eastern edge — Riganokampos is not a district in its own right in our data, and of the names on this list Eglykada is the one that contains and abuts it, with Perivola on its other side. Against Koukouli and Perivola it is bigger, more industrial and much more often named by police.

Visitors have no particular reason to come except to walk between Ano Poli and the centre. It is the one genuinely atmospheric quarter of Patras: low stone houses, small squares, tavernas and a handful of boutique guesthouses, mixed with an elderly resident population and a steady trickle of students and short-let visitors. Travel guides routinely call it the best base in the city, and it is the only part of Patras people visit for its own sake rather than to catch a boat. Compared with the flat commercial grid below, it is quieter, greener and better looking, but also patchier: restored terraces sit next to derelict plots and empty buildings.

  Ypsila AloniaΥψηλά Αλώνια · average crimeThe great belvedere square on the shelf between the upper and lower city, formerly Plateia Benizelou Roufou, ringed by neoclassical facades and palm trees and long used as a postcard image of Patras. It is a residential and cafe quarter rather than a nightlife one, with an older resident population, a few hotels and the Skagiopouleio children's home on Benizelou Roufou street just below. People come for the view over the gulf, the church of Agios Andreas Palaios nearby and the walk down to the centre. Against neighbouring Ano Poli it is flatter, easier to walk and better connected, but its centrepiece square has been visibly let go and is currently the shabbiest of the city's big public spaces.

It is the one outlying settlement in this group that appears repeatedly in current police reporting: named among the consistently high-risk zones for residential burglaries, and among the locations checked in a July 2026 Achaia police operation. Otherwise an ordinary small settlement of houses and holdings.

A new urban park with lawns, LED lighting, a playground and accessible ramps is being laid out at Exo Agyia. Against Anthoupoli it is bigger, older and more varied; unlike Anthoupoli, it appears in the police patrol priority list.

It is a poor, densely built quarter with a long-settled population, some of the cheapest housing in Patras, and a municipal renovation programme part-completed. Outsiders go for the architecture — it is genuinely photogenic and often paired with Agia Aikaterini in local features on Patras's picturesque old quarters. It is also the most consistently named district in Hellenic Police reporting on the city, which is the single biggest difference between it and every other inner neighbourhood on this list.

Its position is what defines it: it sits directly on the edge of the district that dominates Hellenic Police reporting on Patras, and press coverage of police priorities has described the strip between Prosfygika and Plateia Voud. Nobody visits; people live here because it is cheap and close to the southern approaches. That makes it the busiest part of greater Patras outside the centre — thousands of students, a full hospital catchment, a ferry crossing, a Venetian castle, and a coastal strip of cafes, beach bars and clubs that is where Patras goes out in summer. It is about 7-8 km from the centre. Against Kastelokampos next door it is livelier and far more transient; against the inner city it is younger, more spread out and much greener.

People come for the campus, the beach and the tavernas. Against Rio next door it is quieter and more residential; against Proastio it is more institutional.   Ano SichenaΆνω Συχαινά · average crimeThe upper half of the Sychaina settlement on the north-eastern edge of the city, recognised as a settlement again in 1951 and attached to the then Municipality of Patras. The Meilichos river runs through Sychaina; in antiquity the temple of Triclarian Artemis stood somewhere near it, though it has never been found. Today Ano Sychaina is a semi-suburban district of detached houses and small blocks on rising ground, with new squares laid out by the municipality and an active property market. Against Anthoupoli below it, it is lower-density and quieter; against the mountain villages further up it is fully part of the city. No crime reporting names it.

It matters to travellers because it is the practical end of town for transport: the railway and intercity bus stations and the North (Old) Port are all close, and guides name it as the convenient choice for an early ferry. Against Ano Poli it is plainer and noisier; against the port strip proper it is far more populated and better lit.
