Chatzikyriakeio scores 38 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for overall safety — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Chatzikyriakeio has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Piraeus's rate — Piraeus scores 37 for overall safety — and the 1 point between them comes from how the model shares Piraeus's total out, not from anything measured in Chatzikyriakeio. An estimated 7,842 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Chatzikyriakeio is actually like
The north-west shoulder of the peninsula, bounded by Thoukydidou to the east and G. Theotoki to the south. It is institutional as much as residential: the Naval Academy since 1885, the Chatzikyriakeio orphanage since 1889, the regional library, and the Zoodochos Pigi church built by refugees from Eastern Thrace who settled after 1924. Chatzikyriakou is the largest boulevard in Piraeus. Visitors come for the seafood tavernas along the shore. Two weekly street markets (laiki) set up on or just beyond its edges, 07:30-15:30: Pigada's on Georgiou Theotoki street on Tuesdays and Kallipoli's on Marias Chatzikyriakou street on Saturdays.
After dark
Quiet, with a standing military and institutional presence keeping the main avenue watched. Side streets empty early. No incidents documented here in 2024-26.
Staying here
A genuinely calm, low-tourist option about 20 minutes' walk from the passenger terminals. Reasonable before a mid-morning sailing; less convenient than the port blocks if you leave before dawn.
Reputation against reality. Reputation lags reality here: the official Athens guide treats Chatzikyriakeio as a seafood destination, not a place to be careful in.
