It grew outward from an old settlement through worker housing in the east and the Efedroupoli development from the early 1990s, and it contains a string of small named sub-settlements including Nikopoli, Euxeinoupoli, Efedroupoli, Travmatioupoli, Anthokipoi, Filothei and Agios Georgios-Palia Efkarpia. It is described as one of the more promising residential areas on Thessaloniki's fringe, with an active property market. No crime reporting singles out Efkarpia in 2024-2026.
Suburban and quiet, with new low-density blocks and wide roads that empty early. No documented night-time crime pattern; the main practical issue is thin transport and little street life.
Not useful for visitors - too far out with too little around it. Of interest to long-stay renters, not tourists.
