Girokomeio is a small, green, comfortable district running parallel to Kifissias Avenue, named after the old people's home that has operated on the site since 1907 on land donated by Andreas Syngros and later endowed by Eustathios and Palmyra Lampsa. It borders Nea Filothei, Ampelokipoi, Ellinoroson and the municipality of Palaio Psychiko, and contains the Park for the Child and Culture.
Very quiet and low-traffic, with institutional grounds and lower-density housing rather than bar streets. It is one of the least eventful parts of the municipality after dark.
Comfortable and safe but a long way from anything a visitor wants, with Panormou the nearest metro station. It suits relocating families and long-stay workers rather than tourists.
Reputation against reality. No safety coverage exists in Greek or English media. It is a small, well-off institutional pocket, not a district that appears in crime reporting.
