Polygono scores 34 out of 100 for property crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 10,260 people at 16,579 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.
Polygono climbs the Tourkovounia slopes above Pedion tou Areos, sitting between Gyzi, Kypseli and Nea Filothei and adjoining Ampelokipoi. Height restrictions on the slopes mean it is markedly less densely built than its neighbours, with lower blocks, gardens and long views over the city. For a visitor there is essentially nothing here: no sights, no bar strip, no metro station.
Residential and still, with steep, patchily lit streets and very few people about. The practical risk is losing your footing or your bearings rather than being troubled by anyone.
Not worth booking unless you have a specific reason to be here — family, a long let, cheap space. Anyone who wants to walk into the centre should choose Gyzi or Ampelokipoi instead.
Reputation against reality. Polygono has effectively no safety coverage in Greek or English media — neither positive nor negative. That absence is itself informative: it is not a district that generates incidents worth reporting.
