The strip between Ano and Kato Petralona, on the slope below Filopappou. Same neighbourhood in everything but name: 1930s refugee housing, tavernas around the station, and one of the few parts of central Athens that still feels lived-in rather than let out.
Quiet residential streets with a handful of tavernas keeping them populated until late. The Filopappou footpaths above are the exception and are not a night route.
A calm, cheap base a short metro ride from the centre, and within walking distance of the Acropolis by daylight.
