Agios Elevtherios scores 31 out of 100 for violent crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 8,652 people at 16,579 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.
A northern district on Leoforos Ionias, settled in 1902 by farming families and once a summer retreat for well-off Athenians. The ISAP station opened in 1961 and turned it into an ordinary urban suburb, but it kept a mix of single-family houses among 1970s and 80s blocks. The landmark is the rebuilt church of Agios Elevtherios; it is otherwise a self-contained residential area with its own shops and schools and a significant migrant population.
Normal residential quiet with Line 1 running late; no square or strip that draws trouble, and none of the district appears in the current police operational plan.
Reasonable for a long stay or a family visit: Line 1, real neighbourhood life, prices well under the centre. Not a sightseeing base, at twenty-five minutes plus from the Acropolis.
Reputation against reality. Caught by blanket 'northern Patisia' warnings it does not deserve. This is a station suburb with houses and gardens, further from the problems of Kato Patisia than the shared name suggests.
