Agios Elevtherios scores 33 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for overall safety — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Agios Elevtherios has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Athens's rate — Athens scores 25 for overall safety — and the 8 points between them come from how the model shares Athens's total out, not from anything measured in Agios Elevtherios. An estimated 8,652 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Agios Elevtherios is actually like
A northern district on Leoforos Ionias, settled in 1902 by farming families and once a summer retreat for well-off Athenians. The ISAP station opened in 1961 and turned it into an ordinary urban suburb, but it kept a mix of single-family houses among 1970s and 80s blocks. The landmark is the rebuilt church of Agios Elevtherios; it is otherwise a self-contained residential area with its own shops and schools.
After dark
Normal residential quiet with Line 1 running late; no square or strip that draws trouble, and none of the district appears in the current police operational plan.
What to watch for
- Chain-snatching at Agios Eleftherios ISAP station, which was on the list of stations worked by the gang broken up with 21 arrests
- Poorly lit stretches along the rail corridor and towards the national road
- The commercial ends of Leoforos Ionias after shop-closing
Staying here
Reasonable for a long stay or a family visit: Line 1, real neighbourhood life, prices well under the centre. Not a sightseeing base, at twenty-five minutes plus from the Acropolis.
Reputation against reality. Caught by blanket 'northern Patisia' warnings it does not deserve. This is a station suburb with houses and gardens, further from the problems of Kato Patisia than the shared name suggests.
Streets and squares: Leoforos Ionias · Agiou Eleftheriou church · Chalkidos · Perissou
