Thymarakia crime and safety

Θυμαράκια · district

33/100

Thymarakia scores 33 out of 100 for overall safetyabove-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 8,578 people at 16,579 people per km².

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.

What Thymarakia is actually like

Ordinary city precautionsNo specific problem on record beyond what any dense city centre has.

A tight residential wedge between Agios Nikolaos, Sepolia, Kolonos and Kato Patisia, built up first by self-construction on former farmland and then conventionally, with Liosion as its spine. It is unusually cut off for a central district — the railway isolates it from its neighbours — and it has almost no free public space beyond Plateia Athanasiou Diakou. Traffic from the Liosion coach terminal loads its narrow streets.

After dark

Plain residential quiet away from Liosion; the avenue itself carries coach and through traffic all night, and the rail-side streets are dark and unused.

What to watch for

  • Liosion avenue traffic and its poorly maintained pavements
  • Isolation from neighbouring districts because of the railway barrier, so few natural through-routes on foot at night
  • Coach terminal environs at the northern end

Staying here

Not a visitor area — no hotels, no sights, awkward walking. Perfectly liveable as a cheap central address if you can tolerate the traffic and the lack of green space.

Reputation against reality. Absent from both the police plan and travel-safety writing. Residents' documented complaints are cleanliness, broken pavements and missing amenities rather than crime.
