Goudi is a former army camp turned hospital-and-university quarter on the eastern edge of the municipality. It holds Laiko hospital, the Agia Sophia and Aglaia Kyriakou children's hospitals, Sotiria, the 401 military hospital, the University of Athens medical, dental and nursing schools, and a large, still half-finished metropolitan park. The population is students, medical staff and long-settled families.
The built streets are ordinary and calm, kept awake by shift changes and ambulance traffic. The park itself is dark, patchily lit and largely empty after hours, and much of it still functions as a car park rather than a park.
Sensible only if you are visiting a hospital or the university — there is no metro station and little within walking distance. Tourists should not book here; Ilisia gives the same calm with far better access.
Reputation against reality. Reputation is driven by the park's visible neglect, not by recorded crime. Greek coverage of the Goudi metropolitan park is about abandonment, parking and stalled planning, not about assaults.
