Freattyda scores 37 out of 100 for violent crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 4,345 people at 13,556 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.
A seaward wedge on the south-east of the peninsula, bounded by Kantharou to the north and Sachtouri to west and south, with Terpsithea above and Zea harbour alongside. It holds Tzaneio, the city's main hospital, the Maritime Museum, the submarine Papanikolis and the town beach moved here in the early 1960s. The municipality upgraded that beach in 2026 and neighbouring Votsalakia in July 2025, adding LED lighting and 24-hour free pedestrian access.
Quiet residential streets and a lit promenade; hospital traffic keeps Sachtouri busy at all hours. The beach gates are an anti-vandalism measure, not a curfew. Nothing documented here in 2024-26.
Calm, attractive and close enough to Zea to eat well. Like the rest of the peninsula it is 20-30 minutes on foot from the gates with luggage, so treat it as a leisure base, not a ferry base.
