Violent crime in Pigada

Πηγάδα · District

Modelled estimate — how it is made
37/100

By type of crime

Pigada scores 37 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for violent crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Pigada has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Piraeus's rate — Piraeus scores 36 for violent crime — and the 1 point between them comes from how the model shares Piraeus's total out, not from anything measured in Pigada. An estimated 2,370 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Pigada is actually like

Ordinary precautionsThe usual precautions apply. The note lists anything specific to this place.

One of the oldest neighbourhoods, on a low hill near the middle of the peninsula facing Kallipoli, named for a large well sunk when the first drinking-water cisterns were installed. It was grazing land with three mills before it was built up along Dexameni and Chatzikyriakou toward Agios Vasileios. The old reservoir ground is now a planted square. Its real function today is a junction linking Marina Zea, Chatzikyriakeio, central Piraeus and the harbour. Three markets set up in it or at its edge: Neo Faliro's Monday street market (laiki) on Zaimi street, Pigada's own on Georgiou Theotoki street on Tuesdays, both 07:30-15:30, and an organic producers' market on Plateia Pigadas on Wednesday afternoons, 14:00-18:00.

After dark

A traffic node rather than a nightlife spot, lit and overlooked, with cars passing steadily between the marina and the centre. Nothing documented here in 2024-26.

Staying here

Central, ordinary and within 15 minutes' walk of both Zea and the terminals, but with little purpose-built accommodation. Perfectly fine if a rental happens to be here; not somewhere to search out.
