What Ano Kastritsio is actually like
A hill village and the seat of its community in the Rio municipal unit, on the foothills of Panachaiko at 482 m, about 9 km in a straight line from Plateia Georgiou in central Patras; the community had 745 residents at the 2021 census. It is a proper hill village with stone houses, plane trees and views down over the gulf and the bridge, reached by a winding road up from Kato Kastritsi. The Selemnos river, locally the Kastritsiano potami, runs past it, and the ruins of a Frankish castle first recorded in 1364 survive on the hill of Agios Andreas above the village, which was known in the Middle Ages for its cherries and its wine. Panachaiko's protected areas include the Ano Kastritsi - Souli wildlife refuge. Walkers and Sunday lunch trade; no incident reporting. City bus 608 ends here: six departures from Patras on weekdays, two on Saturdays and none on Sundays on the timetable in force from 16 September 2026.
