The upper half of the Sychaina settlement on the north-eastern edge of the city, recognised as a settlement again in 1951 and attached to the then Municipality of Patras. The Meilichos river runs through Sychaina; in antiquity the temple of Triclarian Artemis stood somewhere near it, though it has never been found. Today Ano Sychaina is a semi-suburban district of detached houses and small blocks on rising ground, with new squares laid out by the municipality and an active property market. Against Anthoupoli below it, it is lower-density and quieter; against the mountain villages further up it is fully part of the city. No crime reporting names it.
Quiet, low-density and dark on the outer lanes, with little through traffic. The river course and open ground are unlit. No documented incidents, patrol priorities or burglary listings for Ano Sychaina.
Fine for a quiet longer stay if you have a car. Not sensible for a short visit or an early Italy ferry — it is on the far north-eastern edge, well away from both ports.
