Proastio scores 54 out of 100 for overall safety — average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 8,234 people at 618 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. The district at the northern entrance to Patras, about 7 km from the centre, known until 1928 as Bozaitika and settled by Kalavryta families. It divides into Ano Proastio, Kato Proastio and Paralia Proastiou, and takes in the Dafnes shore, a popular summer beach for city residents. It is a spread-out suburban area of detached houses, gardens and newer blocks, with people living here for space and the sea rather than for anything to visit. Against Kastelokampos further north it is similar in feel; against the inner city it is far quieter. Its one documented issue is property crime, not street crime.
Quiet suburban and coastal streets, dark between built-up pockets, with summer activity along the shore. Proastio is named in police data as a consistently high-risk zone for residential burglaries. Nothing in the record points to pedestrian risk.
Pleasant for a summer stay by the sea with a car, and there are rooms and apartments along the coast. A poor choice for an early Italy ferry: you are 7 km north of the centre and about 11 km from the South Port gates.
Reputation against reality. Proastio reads as a safe seaside suburb and largely is, for a person walking around. The burglary listing is about houses, and applies most to properties left empty.
