Girokomeio scores 51 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for overall safety — average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Girokomeio has no police figures of its own, so its estimate is Patras's: both score 51 for overall safety. An estimated 22,063 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Girokomeio is actually like
An eastern hillside district named for the historic monastery of the Girokomeio, one of the oldest in Greece, which still stands here. It is the greenest of the inner neighbourhoods: woodland with laid-out recreation areas, wide views over the gulf, an unusually good microclimate, the Konstantopouleio old people's home, and detached houses and low blocks along the approach roads. People come up for the monastery, the grove and the air. Against the dense districts below it is quieter, leafier and more expensive, and against Terpsithea and Pagona on the same slope it is higher, more open and more institutional. No crime reporting in the 2024-2026 record names it.
After dark
Very quiet. The woodland and monastery grounds are dark and empty after dusk; the residential roads are calm with modest lighting. There is no documented incident, patrol priority or burglary listing for Girokomeio.
What to watch for
- The grove and monastery grounds after dark — unlit and unfrequented
- Isolated detached houses on the upper roads
Staying here
Pleasant and quiet if you find a short let and have a car, and the views are the best in the city. Impractical without one, and a poor choice for an early Italy ferry — the South Port gates are a long way downhill and south.
