Sepolia scores 24 out of 100 for property crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 11,172 people at 16,579 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.
An unpretentious residential neighbourhood on Metro Line 2, four stops from Omonia, built out by internal migrants from the 1960s and formalised in the 1970s; the metro arriving in 2000 lifted it noticeably. It is best known outside Greece as where Giannis Antetokounmpo grew up, and the municipal sports centre has a court named after him. Agios Meletios church and square are the social centre; the Votris factory site sits abandoned nearby.
Normal residential quiet rather than nightlife: lit main streets, people about until late on Agiou Meletiou, and no particular reason to be on the tracks-side lanes after midnight.
Fine to stay in if you have a reason — family, a long stay, a cheap month — and want a plain Athenian neighbourhood on the metro. As a short holiday base it just costs you time and gives you nothing.
Reputation against reality. Rick Steves forum regulars mostly ask why a tourist would come here at all, which is the right question; the answers are basketball pilgrimage and cheap rent. It is not one of the districts named in the 2026 police plan.
