Property crime in Freattyda

Φρεαττύδα · District

Modelled estimate — how it is made
39/100

By type of crime

Freattyda scores 39 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for property crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Freattyda has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Piraeus's rate — Piraeus scores 38 for property crime — and the 1 point between them comes from how the model shares Piraeus's total out, not from anything measured in Freattyda. An estimated 4,345 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Freattyda is actually like

A good place to stayThe note recommends it as a base and says for whom. Scores are modelled from the wider area's recorded crime, so the two can differ.

A seaward wedge on the south-east of the peninsula, bounded by Kantharou to the north and Sachtouri to west and south, with Terpsithea above and Zea harbour alongside. It holds Tzaneio, the city's main hospital, the Maritime Museum, the submarine Papanikolis and the town beach moved here in the early 1960s. The municipality upgraded that beach in 2026 and neighbouring Votsalakia in July 2025, adding LED lighting and 24-hour free pedestrian access. The nearest weekly street market (laiki) is Monday's on Zaimi street, 07:30-15:30, about 300 m beyond its edge; on Wednesday afternoons, 14:00-18:00, an organic producers' market sets up on Plateia Pigadas, a little further on.

After dark

Quiet residential streets and a lit promenade; hospital traffic keeps Sachtouri busy at all hours. The beach gates are an anti-vandalism measure, not a curfew. Nothing documented here in 2024-26.

Staying here

Calm, attractive and close enough to Zea to eat well. Like the rest of the peninsula it is 20-30 minutes on foot from the gates with luggage, so treat it as a leisure base, not a ferry base.
