The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. The old industrial core, named for the poplars that grew here under King George I. It borders Kaminia to the east, Palaia Kokkinia to the north, Papastratos to the west along the OSE lines, and Gouva tou Vavoula and Paliatzidika to the south along the ISAP lines. This was the labour centre of Piraeus: the Retsina brothers' textile mill, the last of five, and the Kerani tobacco works, once Greece's third largest.
Semi-industrial and thinly populated after working hours, with railway cuttings, blank warehouse walls and long stretches without passers-by. That, rather than any documented incident, is the reason to be deliberate about your route.
Not a place to book. Almost no accommodation, streets poorly suited to walking with bags, and nothing gained on distance to the ferries over the port blocks.
