One of the most central neighbourhoods, named for its square at the crossing of Iroon Polytechniou, which runs up to Chatzikyriakeio, and 2as Merarchias, which runs from the central port down to Zea. That makes it the hinge between the ferry terminals and the marina, with Gladstonos and Palaiologou as near-pedestrian side lanes. Ordinary Piraeus: apartment blocks, offices, bakeries. The municipality has commissioned a redesign of the square.
Through-traffic keeps 2as Merarchias and Iroon Polytechniou busy late and the square is overlooked. People walk this corridor between the port and Pasalimani, so it rarely feels deserted. Nothing documented in 2024-26.
Quietly the most practical address in Piraeus: ten to fifteen minutes downhill to the gates, five to the metro, and you can eat at Zea without a taxi. Sound for an early ferry if the port blocks feel too raw.
