Ampelokipoi scores 46 out of 100 for violent crime — average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. It is home to about 2,771 people at 618 people per km².
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate for Greece as a whole, 100 the safest end of the scale and 0 the least safe, and every doubling of the rate costs the same number of points wherever you are. Regional units are scored from Eurostat's police-recorded offence rates per 100,000 inhabitants. Greece publishes nothing finer, so municipalities and districts share out their region's measured rate by how built-up they are and by documented local reporting — treat those two levels as an estimate, not a count of reported crime.
An eastern residential district on the University Road, forming part of the boundary of the Anthoupoli area. It is newer Patras: apartment blocks from the 1980s onward, wide approach roads, supermarkets and car showrooms rather than kafeneia, and a population of families and commuters with a student overlay because of the bus route to Rio. There is nothing for a visitor to see. Against Anthoupoli next door it is much the same in character; against the older inner districts it is greener, quieter and duller, and it appears nowhere in the 2024-2026 police or press reporting on Patras crime.
Quiet suburban streets with reasonable lighting on the main roads and less on the residential ones. Traffic on the University Road continues late. No documented incidents or patrol priorities here.
Fine for a longer stay if you are working or studying on the eastern side, but pointless for a short visit: you are 4-5 km from the centre and further from the Italy ferry gates. Not a base for an early boat.
