Psarofai scores 31 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for violent crime — above-average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Psarofai has no police figures of its own. Its estimate starts from Patras's rate — Patras scores 47 for violent crime — and is adjusted for documented local reporting about Psarofai. An estimated 2,516 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.
The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Psarofai is actually like
A neighbourhood about 3.5 km south-south-east of the centre, on the slope behind the southern districts. It is a modest residential area of older houses and low apartment blocks with a settled local population and few services beyond a couple of shops and a church; there is nothing here to bring a visitor. It sits in the same southern belt as Zarouchleika and Aroi, and shares their profile: ordinary streets, cheap housing, and repeated appearances in Hellenic Police reporting on the city. Against Terpsithea or Agia Varvara a little further in, it is further from the centre, less well served and more often named by police. Its Wednesday-morning street market (laiki) alternates every four months between two spots in the neighbourhood: Dodonis and Skopelou streets, and Omogenon and Kalama streets.
After dark
Streets empty early and lighting is patchy. Psarofai was one of six districts placed under targeted police patrols in July 2025, and press reporting on police priorities has described certain streets here as effectively closed off to other residents. It was also one of three neighbourhoods worked by a night-time burglary ring through late 2025.
What to watch for
- Night-time residential burglary — a ring specifically worked Psarofai after dark
- Balcony and first-floor access points; the gang climbed drainpipes, AC units and awnings
- Quiet unlit streets with no late footfall
Staying here
No. There is no visitor accommodation to speak of, it is a bus ride from anything, and it is one of the named patrol-priority districts. Nothing about it suits an early ferry.
