Violent crime in Taraboura

Ταραμπούρα · District

Modelled estimate — how it is made
45/100

By type of crime

Taraboura scores 45 out of 100 (modelled estimate, Eurostat 2021–2024) for violent crime — average crime, on a scale where 50 is the average for Greece. Taraboura has no police figures of its own. Its estimate is Patras's rate — Patras scores 47 for violent crime — and the 2 points between them come from how the model shares Patras's total out, not from anything measured in Taraboura. An estimated 2,006 people live there: the 2021 census counts the surrounding community as a whole, and this is its share by area.

The score is absolute, not a ranking: 50 is the offence rate of Greece as a whole and every doubling of the rate costs the same points, so any two places compare directly. How the scores are made

What Taraboura is actually like

Ordinary precautionsThe usual precautions apply. The note lists anything specific to this place.

A southern district near the Glafkos river crossing, between Zarouchleika and Begoulaki, named after the nickname of Dimitrios Aravantinos, a nineteenth-century property owner who ran a cafe here. It is plain residential Patras with a workers' housing estate, Patra 5, at its core, plus older houses, small blocks and neighbourhood shops. There is no visitor interest. Against Zarouchleika immediately north it is smaller and, importantly, carries none of the documented policing attention; against Metamorfosi Sotiros across the Glafkos it is older and closer in. Complaints here have been about estate conditions rather than crime. The municipal market regulation gives it a permanent Saturday-morning street market (laiki) on Filippou Olympiados, Skyrou and Alonisou streets. Patras city buses run here: route 201 (TEI - Taraboura).

After dark

Quiet residential streets with modest lighting; the river corridor and open ground toward the Glafkos are dark. Problems raised in parliament about the Patra 5 workers' housing concern conditions and upkeep, not safety. No documented incidents or patrol priorities name Taraboura.

What to watch for

  • The Glafkos river corridor and open ground after dark
  • Worn common areas and lighting on the Patra 5 workers' estate
  • Standard home security

Staying here

No — very little to book, nothing to see, and the centre serves you better. Being south helps a little for the Italy ferries but you will still want a taxi to the South Port.
